Sometimes I really hate the word “sufferer.” It’s overly dramatic and many times used to describe petty things that can hardly be classified as suffering.
But I felt like I’ve suffered from the plague on top of my head. Psoriasis, dandruff, flakey scalp-call it what you want it sucked.
Wow, this post is buried in drama already. Here’s the thing, though, for those who’ve never had this problem and can’t understand: it affects ALOT in your life. Not just minor health issues like walking around with an itchy head all the time but social ones as well.
For one: Dandruff is embarrassing. Not only can it be irritating and possibly painful, but it carries such an unfair social stigma. That somehow you’re dirty or unclean if you have a dry flakey scalp or oily itchy scalp. Which I always found funny in that I showered and shampoo’d every day.
The sad irony is more often than not that is our real problem: we’ve gone overboard trying to fix it. Now the “natural balance” of our scalp and skin is thrown way off. And the awful chemicals we pile on top of that in search of a remedy make it even worse. Which leads me to my second point:
Professional treatment for itchy scalp is expensive!
And like everybody else I spent a ton on dandruff shampoos. I would actually look at how much they cost and assume that they were better if they were really expensive. Yeah, they didn’t work. Or if they worked it was for a week and then I’d be back to my itchy, red scalp.
That lead me to start looking at the home remedy market. And let me just cut to the chase and say that while the natural way is probably the best way in most cases, when it came to my dandruff the solution was no better. My first attempt was on my own with vinegar. Believe me, you’ll see a bunch of vinegar cures on the net and my first attempt actually worked for awhile. But to keep it working I had to keep applying every week. This was something I wasn’t willing to do. It stunk and for days you could smell me from a mile away!
But, ah, I started this blog for a reason and yes, I have a solution that so far has been working for me. Teaser, I know, but it’s late and I do want to explain my thought on the subject some more. Stay tuned…
